Letter To My Children

To My Children (and anyone else who wants unasked advice)-

There's a secret people are reluctant to tell you, but I'm going to tell you now: no one really ever grows up. I don't know why we all pretend, but knowing this should allow you to have more patience with yourself and others. I'm 27 years old and have yet to meet an "adult." They don't exist. We try our best and gain some wisdom along the way, but at the end of the day; there are more questions than answers.

While on the topic of growing up, I want to tell you, please don't. I tell you both that every day, because I love your squishy little faces and tiny toes and I really wish I could keep you small forever. Your body's will grow, but I hope your soul stays child-like. If you approach every day how you do now, at 2 and 4 years old; you'll be wiser than you know. Every day you open your eyes with excitement and wonder, because this world is so new and unpredictable and guess what! The world stays that way, it's people who lose their appreciation and wonder about it.

If you ever start to feel alone in this world, while asking the big life questions, listen to The Beatles. If you have your heart shattered and are not sure how to pick up the pieces, turn on some Bruce Springsteen. If you're trying to find your way and persevere in chasing your dreams, hit up Fleetwood Mac or Stevie Nicks solo. If you just want to cruise and enjoy your day, turn up Tom Petty.  And, if you want to get deep about all of the above, break out the Led Zeppelin. There's knowledge and lessons to learn through tunes. Music is a powerful thing, listen wisely.

Be understanding. If the wrong order comes out at lunch- just eat it. If you can only get store credit- just take it. And if you notice a person having a rough day- just make it better. There's always a choice to complain or help. I hope you choose to help.

Always ask questions. Forever. When a crowd is running in one direction, make sure you know why and where they are going.

Be nice. Im appalled at the amount of people who have forgotten common sweetness towards other humans. I hope you never underestimate the power of being nice to other people.

Be kind. Be love. Those are both universal things that any one can understand and qualities that lead others.

Your reality is what you make it; so make it COLORFUL, fun, good. All the things you want it to be- make it that.

Stay true to you. You'll have lots of hard nights, long days, and "how did I get here's," but at the end of your days, I hope you make yourself proud and rest easy knowing from the moment you took your first breath, you have and are enough.

More letters coming your way, soon! I know, exciting :).

I love you with all of my being and no space, time or black hole could ever break it.

With all the gratefulness my heart could muster,
